If you own a dually truck, choosing the right car lift is more important than it is for the average vehicle. Many standard lifts are designed around cars, SUVs, and half-ton pickups. A dually truck adds extra weight, a wider rear track, and often a longer wheelbase that can push a lift to its limits.
In this guide, we’ll cover average dually truck weights, why many 8,000 lb lifts are not ideal, and our recommendations for the best lifts for dually owners in 2026.
Most modern dually trucks weigh between 7,500 and 10,500 pounds depending on the configuration.
Once you add toolboxes, fuel tanks, snowplows, service bodies, trailers, or work equipment, the actual operating weight can increase significantly.
An 8,000 lb lift may technically handle some lighter dually trucks, but it is usually not the best choice. With a heavy diesel truck, you want more margin than “barely enough.”
For most dually owners, we recommend starting at a 9,000 lb minimum, but an 11,000 lb or 12,000 lb lift is usually the better long-term choice. For heavy work trucks or commercial use, a 15,000 lb lift may be worth considering.
A 9,000 lb lift can work for lighter dually trucks, especially if the truck is close to stock and not loaded with heavy tools or equipment.

Watch out for:
An 11,000 lb lift is often the sweet spot for dually truck owners. It gives you more breathing room than an 8K or 9K lift without jumping all the way to a commercial-grade 15K lift.
Best for:
Why it makes sense:
A 15,000 lb lift is best for commercial shops, service trucks, fleet use, or anyone who wants as much capacity margin as possible.
Best for:
The Atlas PV-12PX has become one of our most popular heavy-duty truck lifts. With a 12,000 lb capacity, direct-drive cylinders, and extra width, it works very well for diesel pickups and dually trucks.
Why we like it:
For dually owners who want a lift primarily for storage, maintenance, and long-term reliability, the Triumph NSS-11 is one of the best values on the market.
Why we like it:
If your primary goal is storing a dually, performing oil changes, brake work, and general maintenance, a quality 4-post lift like the NSS-11 is often the easiest and most user-friendly option.
If you are looking for the lowest-cost option that still provides enough capacity for many dually applications, the Atlas 9KOHX deserves consideration.
Why we like it:
Just make sure your truck’s actual weight falls comfortably below the lift’s rated capacity. If your dually is a diesel, has a service body, carries tools, or has added equipment, moving up to a 12K lift is usually the better choice.
If ALI Certification is important to you, the Atlas PVL12 is one of the best choices available. It gives you a strong 12,000 lb capacity and is designed for larger trucks and commercial use.
Why we like it:
For most dually owners, the sweet spot is an 11,000–12,000 lb lift. It provides plenty of capacity for today’s heavier trucks while giving you room for future vehicles.
If you are looking for a 2-post lift, the Atlas PV-12PX and Atlas PVL12 are excellent choices. If your primary goal is storage and maintenance, the Triumph NSS-11 is one of the best 4-post lifts available for dually trucks.
