Engine Stands FAQs

What should I look for in a professional engine stand?

Compare rated capacity, base stability, caster quality, mounting-head adjustment, rotation control, locking positions, overall dimensions, engine adapters, parts support, and whether the stand is designed for the size of engines your shop services.

Do diesel engines require a special engine stand?

Many diesel engines are heavier, longer, and have different mounting requirements than passenger-car engines. Use a stand specifically rated and configured for the engine’s weight and dimensions, and verify any required adapters.

What is the advantage of a rotating engine stand?

A rotating stand lets you reposition the engine for access to the oil pan, cylinder heads, rear main seal, and other components. Heavy engines benefit from controlled rotation and a locking mechanism designed for the rated load.

How do I know if an engine will fit an engine stand?

Check the stand’s capacity, mounting-head design, adjustment range, engine mounting points, clearance, and center of gravity. The mounting arms or adapters must attach securely to approved points on the engine.

What capacity engine stand do I need?

Choose a stand rated above the actual engine weight and intended for the engine’s size and mounting configuration. Large diesel and commercial engines can require substantially heavier stands than typical passenger-car engines.
