Industrial Air Compressors FAQs

What other equipment should I install with an industrial air compressor?

Depending on the application, a complete system may include a dryer, filters, regulator, automatic drain, isolation pads, shutoff valves, piping, and adequate ventilation. Air quality requirements are especially important for painting and sensitive pneumatic equipment.

Do I need a single-phase or three-phase air compressor?

Use the electrical service available at your facility and the compressor manufacturer’s requirements. Larger commercial compressors are often offered in three-phase configurations, while many smaller shop units are available in single phase. Verify voltage and phase before ordering.

What tank size do I need for an automotive shop?

A larger receiver can reduce rapid cycling and provide reserve air during short demand spikes, but it does not replace adequate compressor output. Choose tank size together with CFM, duty cycle, and the tools or equipment you operate.

Should I choose a 5 HP, 7.5 HP, 10 HP, or larger compressor?

Horsepower is only one sizing factor. Compare delivered CFM at your required PSI, duty cycle, number of simultaneous users, compressor type, tank size, and electrical service. Size the system around your actual air demand rather than horsepower alone.

How many CFM does my shop air compressor need?

Add the air consumption of tools that may run at the same time, then allow capacity for duty cycle, leaks, and future growth. CFM at the required pressure is usually more important than tank size alone when sizing a compressor for a shop.
